Aim and background:

The aim of the study is to evaluate the relation between serum leucocyte and C-reaktive protein (CRP) levels and appendix perforation in cases who underwent surgery with acute appendicitis prediagnosis.

Material and method:

One hundred and one patients who underwent appendectomy between year 2013 and 2014 were evaluated. Patients were divided into two groups: group 1 - patients with perforated appendicitis (n=17) and group 2 - patients with nonperforated appendicitis (n=84).

Results:

No statistically difference was found between two group regarding the blood leucocyte and CRP levels (p=0,170; p=0,446).

Conclusion:

Although increased CRP value may be considered as a finding for appendiceal perforation, serum leucocyte and CRP levels in patients with acute appendicitis can not be sufficient to predict the presence of perforated appendix alone.
